Boot.dev Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how your personal information is collected, used, and shared when you visit www.boot.dev (the “Site”).

PERSONAL INFORMATION WE COLLECT

When you visit the Site, we automatically collect certain information about your device, including information about your web browser, IP address, time zone, country, and some of the cookies that are installed on your device. Additionally, as you browse the Site, we collect information about the individual web pages you view, what websites or search terms referred you to the Site, and information about how you interact with the Site. We refer to this automatically-collected information as “Device Information”.

We collect Device Information using the following technologies:

  • “Cookies” are data files that are placed on your device or computer and often include an anonymous unique identifier. For more information about cookies, and how to disable cookies, visit http://www.allaboutcookies.org.
  • “Log files” track actions occurring on the Site, and collect data including your IP address, browser type, Internet service provider, referring/exit pages, and date/time stamps.
  • “Web beacons”, “tags”, and “pixels” are electronic files used to record information about how you browse the Site.

Additionally, when you create an account, purchase services, or attempt to purchase services through the Site, we collect certain information from you, including your name, billing address, payment information (including, for example, credit card numbers, PayPal, etc.) and email address. We refer to this information as “Purchase Information.” If you choose to use an integration such as Google, GitHub, or Twitter when logging into the app, we will collect applicable Purchase Information from your integrated profile. This data is stored internally on boot.dev, and is only shown on your boot.dev public profile if you choose to show it.

When we talk about “Personal Information” in this Privacy Policy, we are talking both about Device Information and Purchase Information.

HOW DO WE USE YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION?

We use the Purchase Information that we collect generally to provide the services through the Site (including processing your payment information, and providing you with invoices and/or order confirmations). Additionally, we use this Purchase Information to:

  • Communicate with you;
  • Provide the Boot.dev service to you;
  • Screen our orders for potential risk or fraud; and
  • When in line with the preferences you have shared with us, provide you with information or advertising relating to our products or services.

We use the Device Information that we collect to help us screen for potential risk and fraud (in particular, your IP address), and more generally to improve and optimize our Site (for example, by generating analytics about how our customers browse and interact with the Site, and to assess the success of our marketing and advertising campaigns).

We also use device information to help run online advertisements including retargeting ads.

When you visit the Site, log in, register or open an email, cookies, ad beacons, and similar technologies may be used by our online data partners or vendors to associate these activities with information they or others have about you, including your email address. We (or service providers on our behalf) may then send communications and marketing to these email addresses. You may opt out of our email marketing by using the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any of the emails.

DO NOT TRACK

Please note that we do not alter our Site’s data collection and use practices when we see a Do Not Track signal from your browser. Some web browsers incorporate a “Do Not Track” feature that signals to websites that you visit that you do not want to have your online activity tracked. How browsers communicate the Do Not Track signal is not yet uniform. For this reason, our website does not currently interpret, respond to, or alter their practices when they receive Do Not Track signals. Please note that third parties may collect personal information about your online activities over time and across different websites when you visit our website or other online websites and services. To find out more about "Do Not Track," you may wish to visit http://www.allaboutdnt.com.
